What is the only thing funnier than local BADvertising? …spoofs on local BADvertisements.
Rhett & Link have come up with a hilarious concept that capitalizes on the low standards in local advertising. Please think of your favorite awful local ad for Big Bob’s Carpalooza or Crazy Eddy’s Furniture & Health Insurance and nominate them so Rhett & Link can give them some YouTube fame.
We have all seen and laughed at awful local advertising spots. Typically they involve a used car salesman OR a furniture salesman wearing a costume and embarrassing himself by singing/ rapping/ dancing badly. Sometimes the salesman’s dog or kids are added into the mix to really class it up.
Down in rural Alabama, however, an innovative new strategy has emerged in a spot that challenges the local badvertising status quo — Tell The Truth. I am not just talking about typical honesty here, I mean telling it like it is as if you were redneck Rain Man with a chip on your shoulder.
There are so many things to love about this spot that the list could be lengthy, but I think my top three are:
- The “Stains” — most likely from a domestic abuse incident featured on an episode of Cops
- The Sound Effects — the frequent bullwhip reminded us that this guy means business & the “sex panther” roar for Ms. Trailer Fabulous was to continue the honesty effort and let everyone know that he is banging her like a drum
- The Personal Honesty — this peak into his personal life & facial skeletal history is completely unnecessary but if he is this committed to this honesty thing then clearly he is the man you should buy a trailer home from since he is a straight shooter (plus, I mean who has not had their face smashed by their wife’s boyfriend a time or two right? Makes him more relatable)
The snobby Mad Men of New York/ Chicago/ LA big ad agencies ain’t got nuthin on you Mr. Lee. Good stuff sir. Good stuff indeed.
This awesomely bad tv spot resulted in 24 new cars sold and 26 well deserved ass kickings for the owner.
